About WhatsApp API

What is the WhatsApp Business API?

The WhatsApp Business API is the official enterprise solution from Meta (Facebook) for businesses to communicate with customers at scale. It's different from the regular WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app.

With the API, you can:

  • Send automated messages (order confirmations, shipping updates, etc.)
  • Have multiple team members respond from the same number
  • Integrate with your store and CRM systems
  • Use chatbots and AI agents
Why do I need a new phone number?

Meta requires that the phone number used for WhatsApp API is NOT currently registered with any WhatsApp account (regular or Business app). This is a technical requirement from Meta, not something we can bypass.

Your options:

  • Get a new SIM card for your business WhatsApp (recommended)
  • Unlink your current number from WhatsApp and use it for the API

Important: If you unlink an existing WhatsApp number, you will lose all your current WhatsApp conversations and chat history. We recommend getting a new SIM card instead.

What is a Meta Business Manager?

Meta Business Manager is a free tool from Meta that lets you manage your business assets (Facebook pages, Instagram accounts, WhatsApp Business accounts, etc.) in one place.

To use WhatsApp API, you need a verified Meta Business Manager account. Don't worry — we'll help you set this up during the call if you don't have one yet.

Can I use my existing WhatsApp number?

Yes, but you'll need to unlink it from WhatsApp first. Here's what happens:

  • All your existing chats and conversations will be deleted
  • You won't be able to use the regular WhatsApp app with that number anymore
  • Your contacts will see your number as a Business account

For most businesses, we recommend getting a dedicated number for business WhatsApp and keeping your personal number separate.
